After works of renovation, visitors to Pompeii will be able to see and explore 5 new Domus, starting from today, March 16 2016. This exciting news comes in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition “Myths and Nature” held at the Amphitheatre in Pompeii and, at the same time, at the Archeological Museum of Naples.
Visitors of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii will be able to see the domus and its gardens, admire the amazing frescoes, wander through the perfectly manicured bushes and the reproduction of ancient statues, just as it was before the eruption in 79 AD.
House of Venus in a Shell and its gardens
This new domus include the large house of Julia Felix, an example of a luxurious ancient spa, the little House of the Orchard with its colorful frescoes, the House of Octavius Quartio with poignant frescoes of the double suicide of the lovers Pyramus and Thisbe, as well as the beautiful gardens of the House of Venus in the Shell.
Pompeii, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was stuck in time when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, burying inhabitants but preserving their houses. Visitors will soon be able to follow new routes around the site, and see some human casts that will be on show for the first time. The area open to the public is set to extend to about half of the 44 hectares that have been excavated, said Superintendent Massimo Osanna.
And there is more: as part of the exhibition, people will be able to actually see the charred remains of food and fruits which will be exposed inside the pyramid in the Amphitheatre at the Pompeii archaeological site.
