FICO, the one-of-a-kind food theme park located in Bologna, stands for Fabbrica Italiana Contadina (Italian Farm Factory), because this is the only place in the world where to see the entire food production process, from raw materials to the finished products.
To achieve this objective, this half food mall and half theme park features 45 restaurants (bistros, Michelin starred restaurants, street food examples) where to taste the main specialties of the various Italian regions made with "farm to table" ingredients; 40 farm factories where to learn about the meat/fish/cheese production, and how to make pasta and olive oil; 2 acres of fields and open air stables with 200 animals and 2000 cultivars, where to learn the different cow breeds, see the truffle dogs trying to find those precious mushrooms, and even enjoy a walk through vineyards featuring the main Italian wine varieties; and 6 educational carousels dedicated to the vital elements of fire, earth, water, animals, wine and future.
The main goal of FICO is to show the food from its beginning and not its end, which means starting from the farming and breeding process, to arrive at the transformation into the final dishes which can be tasted at the restaurants or bought in any of the shops inside FICO (everything can be bought and sent locally through the Italian Postal Service).
FICO is opened to the public everyday from 10:00am to 12:00am and it is reachable with a public bus from Bologna Centrale rail station.
