Don't miss one of the best Italian Royal Palaces: Reggia di Caserta

The Reggia di Caserta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most important monuments of the Italian artistic heritage. It is in Caserta (of course!) Campania, not too far from the Amalfi Coast.

This Royal Palace (that is what it is) is a real masterpiece of architecture and decoration and it houses many works of art, forerunner and inspiration for the French palace at Versailles. With its 1200 rooms, 1790 windows, 34 staircases and 250m-long facade, it was the largest building in 18th-century Europe.

A staircase leads up to the royal apartments, decorated with frescoes, art, tapestries, period furniture and crystal.

The complex has appeared in numerous films, including Mission: Impossible 3 , Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones , moonlighting as Queen Amidala's palace in the latter two.

An integral aspect that shows the majesty and beauty of the Reggia di Caserta is its wonderful Park. It is a typical example of an Italian garden: wide lawns, squared flowerbeds and, above all, a triumph of water games (dancing water fountains). Along the central axis, basins, fountains and waterfalls, decorated with large sculptural groups, pass one after another. The result is a spectacular effect of great impact that reaches its peak with the Grande Cascata (Great Waterfall). Then, the English Garden opens itself up to its beholder's eye - not as symmetrical as its Italian complement, requested by Maria Carolina d'Austria and bursting with indigenous and exotic plants, including the wonderful Cedars of Lebanon.

This Palace is really amazing and one of the things you shouldn't miss on a trip to Italy!
